The Battle of Morača was part of a series of battles that took place between Albanian-Ottoman irregulars from the League of Prizren and Montenegrin forces led by Marko Miljanov in the years of 1876-1877.[1][2][3][4] During the battle in 1876, the head of of the League of Prizren, Jakup Ferri and his brother fought the Montenegrin forces.[5][6] Cel Shabani, the Bajraktar of Rugova, participated in the battle and fell in the Battle of Novsice in 1879.[7] alongside Maxhun Nimani of Beci, Ali Mehmeti of Pozharit, Selim Syla of Lluka, Zenel Sejda of Rakocit, and Osman Aga of Rashkocit. In 1858, Preng Markola from Mirdite region fought the Montenegrin forces in Moraca.[8]. The battles are mentioned in Gjergj Fishtas Lahuta e Malcis.[9] Kadri Bajri participated in the battle and was honored in 2016 by Bujar Nishani for his act.[10] In June 11, 1877, Ali Pasha of Gusinje led his forces battles against the Montenegrins.[11][12] The battle is mentioned in Albanian epic folklore.[13] In 1876, the Bajraktar of Gashi Haxi Brahimi was killed in the battle alongside many Malesori.[14]

Background
The Montenegrins had for a period of time fought the Ottomans and decided to once and for all force them out. The Albanian Malesoris of Moraca had been fighting the Montenegrin forces led by Danilo the 1st during the seven year long war (1852-1858). On the Albanian side, Din Bajram Bajraktari, the Bajraktar of Shipshanik, with close ties to Mahmud Pasha Bushatli, participated in the battle.[15] When the Montenegrins attacked, the Albanians and Ottomans were overrun and expelled.[16][17][18]
