Battle of Spuž (Alb: Lufta e Shpuzit, Srb: Битка спуза) was part of a series of battles that took place between Albanian-Ottoman irregulars of Scutari and the Montenegrin forces in the years of 1840, 1860 and 1877-78 in Spuž, Montenegro.[1] The Montenegrin tribe of Bjelopavlici is mentioned to have fought Ottoman forces near Spuz.[2] In the year 1789, during the Ottoman campaign against Peter 1 of Montenegro, Kara Mahmud Bushtatliu fought the Montenegrins and was reinforced with 30,000 Ottoman soldiers in the area of Martinici, Spuz. The pasha lost however and was killed and the highlands of Brda were secured by Montenegro.[3] In the year of 1840, Dasho Shkreli, alongside the Malesori highlanders, fought Montenegrin forces in the castle of Spuz.[4]
