In 1960, the Albanian peasant Rrustem Dibrani Gradica, or Rrustem Gradica (Rrustë Gradica) as he is known in Albanian folklore, went to the village of Caravadic in order to grind at the mill. The village being dominated by Serbs, he, as an Albanian, was not appreciated. As he was going to work, a Serbian boy was in his way. He just pushed him aside without malice, and the boy went home and lied about what had happened. He was then severly beaten by Serbian boys father and then killed by crazed Serbian narcissistic peasants.
According to Albanian folklore, Rrustem Gradica had arrived at the mill to begin working, when a group of Serb children stood in his way. He calmly and in a friendly matter pushed one of the boys to the side, as they blocked his way. The Serbian boy then went home and told his father that an Albanian had beaten him. The father then wielded an iron, and headed to the village square in order to assault Rrustem Gradica.
Gradica however spotted him. He was then hit in the head by the Serb, resulting in blood pouring out. Gradica had a small knife in his belt, and defended himself by stabbing the Serb in the heart, leaving him dead. This naturally caused panic at the village square, near the mill, and several Serb peasants, both men and women, surrounded him. They managed to oveerpower him, beat him, and finally kill him by cutting his head, arms and legs. There were several Albanian peasants there who had not helped poor Rrustem Gradica.
