Boris family (Latin: Boricius, Borisci) (Croatian: Boriši) was an Albanian medieval family originally from Antivari, connected to Kotor, which at the end fo 16th century, settled in Istria as a result of Ottoman pressure[1]
The family was founded by Bernardo Borisi in 1503 who was the advisor and major of the Duke of Wallachia[2][3] The family was accepted into the nobility council of Koper in 1617 and in 1725, entered as the title counts of Istria with Venice’s approval. The Venetian dragoman Marcantonio Borisi belonged to the family. The family was related to the Bruti and Bruni family in 1575 when Giacome Bruti married Pietro Borisi. The family was tied to the Bruti untl 1781, when Agostino Bruti, son of Barnaba Bruti, married countess Santa Borisi.
