According to Italian sources from 1608, Gaidan Vaivoda (Grdan Vojvoda) who led the Serbian uprising in 1596 was an Albanian by origin.

An italian source from 1608 states that the Serbian leader Grdan Vojvoda who led the Serb uprising in the 16th century was in fact an Albanian.

(Shqip: Një burim italian i vitit 1608 thotë se udhëheqësi serb Grdan Vojvoda, i cili udhëhoqi kryengritjen serbe në shekullin e 16-të, ishte në fakt një shqiptar.)

“Of 5th December 1608, To the Rector and Provr of Cattaro:
From your last letters of the past 20th November we have understood what it was necessary for you to notify us regarding the stalemate that made you Gardan Vaivoda Albanese of being able to have a secret summary of that city of our age in the house of the faithful Giacomo Pasquali in the event that he is troubled by Bassa who, as you have informed us, is expected shortly in Castelnuovo.”
