Ker Sadri i Bardhit, the Albanian freedom fighter from Rugova (b. 1880 – d. 1941)

Ker Sadria was a well-known patriot and fighter in Kosovo, a participant in the anti-Ottoman movement for independence, in the efforts for liberation from the Serbian-Montenegro yoke and for national unification, as well as for the democratization of Albania.

Life
He was born in the village of Stankaj, in a family with patriotic traditions of Sadri Bardhi, one of the leaders of the national movement in Rugova. He was a participant in assemblies of the heads of Kosovo and in battles against the Ottoman military forces as early as the 19th century. He was one of the organizers of the resistance against the invading Serbian and Montenegrin armies that penetrated the Dukagjin Plain.

Also, he collaborated with the patriots of the Highlands of Gjakova where he made a great contribution to the organization of various uprisings. After the reconquest of Kosovo by the Serbian army, he was arrested, but managed to escape. In 1918 he was a member of the branch of the “MKK” Committee for Plava, Guca and Rugova. With the tasks of that Committee, during the winter of 1918-1919, in collaboration with Hasan Ferri, Ismail Haki Nikoqi, Mulla Agan Kroje, etc.

He participated as a leader in the Albanian resistance against the blockade and the repeated attack of the Serbian-Montenegro forces in those provinces. During the years 1922-1923, he stood in defense of the Junik Neutral Zone, which once served as a base for the Kosovar insurgents and the forces of the Gjakova Highlands in opposition to the government of Tirana.

Towards the first half of the 20s to 1924, he joined the armed forces of Bajram Curri. After the overthrow of Fan Noli’s government and the return of Ahmet Zogu to power, he was sentenced to death, but the decision was not implemented. In 1926, he settled as an immigrant in Gurëz village and then in Gorre. In April 1941, when he was preparing to return to his homeland, he was treacherously killed together with his wife and son by a gang of criminals because I came to the defense of a fellow villager.
