The history of the Albanians of Sjenica

Written by Petrit Latifi.

“Sjenica, a town on the high and barren plain of the same name, which the inhabitants also call Old Vlach, Sjenica, has a claim that Gjorge the Black built when he occupied the town. Since Sjenica is at the narrowest point of the Novopazar sandjak and is always exposed to the onslaught of Serbia and Montenegro, this is a strategic consideration very famous. And in the last war in 1876, the Serbs threatened that town. Sjenica lies near the confluence of Japa and Jablanica in Uvac. It has 1,000 to 1,500 inhabitants, mostly Muhammadans, Arbanas, who are significantly different from other residents in their clothing, and are much rougher and wilder than other residents of Lopiža”.1
