Niksic was founded by an Albanian lord in the 17th century

Written by Petrit Latifi

According to Lieutenant G. Arbuthnot in his book “OMER PACHA AND THE CHRISTIAN REBELS. WITH A BRIEF ACCOUNT OF SERVIA, ITS SOCIAL, POLITICAL, AND FINANCIAL CONDITION.”, published in 1862, Niksic was founded by an Albanian lord in the 1600s:

“At the south-eastern extremity of the plain stands the town of Niksich, a small, dirty, and irregular collection of buildings, all huddled together in the closest possible vicinity to the ruined fort, as though seeking the protection of its mouldering walls. Of the origin of the fort I could learn little, save from an inscription over the arched entrance, from page 185 which it appears to have been built by the son of an old and influential Albanian chieftain about 200 years ago”.
