According to Gaius Julius Caesar, the Druids believed in the immortality of the soul, which after the death of the body in which it resided, emigrated or found refuge in another body. For this reason, the Druids thought that it was useless, wrong and illogical to fear death.
The Druids also taught young people about nature, the stars and their movement in the sky, the size of the universe and the earth, and the essence and power of the gods. Strabo (64 BC – 24 AD) in “Geographia” mentions the Druids as one of the three groups of people who were revered more than anyone else among the Celtic tribes…
“In all tribes there are three groups of people who are revered more; the Bards, the Vats and the Druids. The Bards are singers and poets, the Vats read the future with the help of sacrifices dedicated to the gods, while the Druids study the natural sciences and moral philosophy. These (the Druids!) are considered the most righteous among men and as a result they are entrusted with the solutions to problems that concern individuals or the entire community…”(Strabone Geographia, IV, 2, 4.)
Why was the Roman state so determined in issuing laws against the Druids and their faith?
Ignoring as invalid the explanations of the Roman state propaganda that justified the legal persecution against the Druids and Druidism with the rituals of human sacrifice performed by the Druids, (even if this accusation were true, it seems ridiculous when you learn that the Roman State itself performed such rituals), the real reason for the persecution of the Druids and Druidism by the Roman state was the political, administrative, moral and cultural role that the Druids performed in the society of the Celtic populations.
The Druids were an intellectual class, which had to be eliminated to enable the consolidation of the power of the Roman state over the conquered territories populated by the Celts.
To protect their high knowledge, the Druids did not write down their teachings, apparently because of this – despite their highly developed culture – they did not leave any evidence. The Druids ran Illyrian society without publicizing the power of power.
Brunaux stated:
“.. the Illyrians could not make political decisions or start a war without a religious festival led by the Druids. So the Druids were able to control everything”.

The reason why not much is known about the Druids (in fact, it is known, because today’s neo-Druids know, they have transmitted their doctrine orally for centuries) is because they did not leave written writings (and even though the Pelasgian alphabet was used at that time), this is also stated by Caesar in ‘de bello gallico’.
Caesar further writes that the essential point of their doctrine is that the soul does not die, it passes from one body to another (metempsychosis). In the era of Caesar they were at the peak of their flowering, then after they were conquered by Rome, decadence and persecution began, culminating with the emperor Claudius.
When the imposition of the new Roman religion began, and anti-Druid propaganda, even to the point of slander, allegedly the Druids made human sacrifices.

Their symbolism is mixed. Caesar, Pliny etc. think that their rituals are without basis and content, which can be interpreted that these were rituals borrowed from others, since there are similarities with the southern tribes in Illyricum, and with the solar system of calculation that is surprisingly dedicated to the moon.
This can be interpreted as the possibility of joining parts without intrinsic connection and being assimilated as their own culture, losing the original foundation.
The mysterious world of the ancient Illyrians. The Druids were the cult of the spirit and the intellectual elite in the Illyrian society of mythology. They were considered the most important people of the religious cult. The Druids are one of the most legendary figures of antiquity. They were priests, teachers and folk healers who served society, their doctrine is mystical and secret
In the former Illyrian lands, a very large Druid cave similar to one in France has been found. The discovery on Mount Jahor was made by Prof. Milorad Stojic of the Archaeological Institute in Belgrade
