Jakov Slišković: “All the land between Morača and Toplica is inhabited only by Albanians” (1904)

Written by Petrit Latifi.

In Jakov Sliškovićs “Albanija i Makedonija” we find an interesting passage:

Translation: “Thus we see that almost all the land between Morača and Toplica is inhabited only by Arbanas.”

Whole section:

“Thus we see that almost all the land between Morača and Toplica is inhabited only by Arbanas. In the north, they penetrate into Bosnia, and to the east, into Bulgaria. In our monarchy we find three colonies of Arbanas. One of these is located in Arbanasi, a village not far from Zadar, in Dalmatia. To some extent, they kept their language, and partly their costume. They live by cultivating the fields, especially by growing various vegetables, which they sell daily in the squares of the city of Zadar. That’s why you often hear the green Albanian language on the square.”
