Russian book from 1872: Bjelopavlic and Kuci derive from Dukagjini

Written by Petrit Latifi

According to a Russian book on the origin of the tribes of Montenegro, published in 1872 from the University of Tbilisi, the Montenegrin tribes of Bjelopavlic and Kuci originate from Dukagjini:

“So, we already know that the Montenegrin tribes Belopavlichi, Vasosvichi and Kuchia originate from Dukadyan (Dukagjin) where there are currently no Slavs, and from the Albanian tribes of Gashas (Gashi) and Krastenics (Krasniqi). On the other hand, the Albanians also have legends about the origin of some of their tribes from Montenegro, such as the Khotët, (Kuci? Koti?) Trepçi (Triepshi) Kastrati. We meet the Balpiçet, (Balsha?) former rulers of Zeta, in Albaniv (Albania)”
