Written by Petrit Latifi

According to French literature, citing Byzantine sources, the first Albanian state was Arbanoni which was mentioned 1200 years ago, in the year 869, while Albanians as a people were mentioned in the year 949 by the Byzantine historian Constantine Porphyrogenitus under the name Arbanenses (arbër, arben, arbnesh)

Quote from “Kalendaria Ecclesiae universae” by Joseph Simonius Asseman, citing Constantinus Porphvrogenitus, the historian of Byzantium, in the year 949 where the Albanians (Albanenses) are mentioned where they are today: “(Constantinus Porphvrogenitus anno Chr 949 quo librum de Administrando Impero scribebat testatur eam quam nunc Albanenses uti supra descriplì regionern obtinent partim Romanos hoc est Latinosaur Graecos)”

From the literature of French historians where Arbanoni (the State of Albanians) is mentioned in the year 869.
