In the book “NEW TEACHING GEOGRAPHY FOR THE GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF ALL PARTIES AND RESIDENTS OF GISA, Philoponously I drew from the latest geographical and statistical writings of Sommerus, A. Valvi, Pitterou, Kannavihou, Fr. Schiuvert and Nikolaou Lorentis, VOLUME IN VIENNA” dated 1838, we can read the following:
“The Tosks, that is, the Albanians, are a separate, autochthonous race, speaking an old Pelasgian language. They are the earliest inhabitants of Epirus, Macedonia and Illyria.”
“The Albanian race otherwise known as Arvanites, Arnauts and in the local language called Scypetars, those who lived in the same province of Albania in the former Macedonian Illyria and Epirus and scattered in various other countries of Odomanikos kingdoms of ancient Illyrian origin in Europe, in akron boisterous, warlike, loud-mouthed, good-natured in manners and austere in diet; otherwise cheerful and fond of dancing and music”.
