Albanians were the first to accept Christianity

Petrit Latifi

Saint Paul said that he spread Christianity to Illyricum. Among the first 100 peoples who accepted Christianity were the Illyrian Albanians. After Rome was divided to the east and west, the church was divided into Roman and Byzantine. The Slavs came to the Balkans as pagans and received Christianity from the Illyrians.

Procopius of Caesar says:

“the Slavs came to the Balkans as pagans and received Christianity from the Illyrians.”

Milan Šuflay in his work “Albanians and Serbs” says that the Albanians are among the first peoples in the Balkans to accept Christianity. Among the peoples who accepted Christianity in the first 100 years, the Albanians are also.

The Life of Theophylact of Ohrid:

“The Slavs, a barbarian people, devastated many cities in Illyricum. Some of the inhabitants were killed with the sword, some were captured, and all the beautiful buildings and the temples of God were destroyed, and they were completely destroyed”.
