Serbian and Montenegrin hostilities against Northern Albania in 1914

Petrit Latifi

In 1914, the Dutch paper “Leiden Courant” published an article on the Serbian and Montenegrin imperialist hostilities against the Albanian state, and specially the Hoti and Gruda tribe. We can read the following:

“…. And besides the danger in the South, danger is now also beginning to threaten in the North. From Belgrade the news has come that Serbia is concentrating a strong army in the vicinity of Gjakova, while Montenegro is also making military preparations on the Albanian border. The Albanian tribes of the Hoti and Gruda, living in New Montenegro, oppressed as they are by the Montenegrins, are preparing to offer the utmost resistance; Malissors and Mirdites have promised their help and it is therefore very possible that fighting will soon break out in Northern Albania.”
