The Albanian “Blood Revenge” on Montenegrin colonists in 1929

Petrit Latifi

In 1929, the Dutch paper published an article describing how Albanian tribesmen massacred Montenegrin colonists in 1929 in the region of Pejë as revenge for the Montenegrin atrocities committed in 1912.

“THE BLOOD REVENGE.

BELGRADE, Oct. 1 (Wolff.) A terrible massacre has been committed by an Albanian band of robbers on the road near Ipek in the Sandsjak, not far from the Albanian border.

The gang attacked a number of Montenegrian colonists who had settled there and killed eight of them. A note was found with the bodies with the words: “This is the revenge for the year 1912”

In this year there had been fighting between Albanian and Montenegrin border tribes. The murdered belonged to this Montenegrin tribe and immediately began investigating the gang.”
