In 1921, the paper “Epoca” reported that 40,000 Serbian troops, including Russian Wrangel troops and Bosniak mercenaries, invaded Albania and committed atrocities against Albanians of the Drin Valley, Miredita and Lezhë.

“From Durrës it is reported to “Epoca” that 40,000 Serbian troops in excellent equipment, including many Bosnians, but also Wrangel troops, have shelled the bank of the Drin River and are holding the Drin Valley occupied. The villages of the Mireditës are destroyed.

Miredita is in the possession of the Serbs and the population massacred. Bloody battles will also take place once Lezhë has fallen. Skutari, having an Italian crew, will have to hold out long in case of siege. The situation is unsustainable for the Tirana Government unless unless the Allied Powers intervene quickly.

According to what is reported to the “Berliner Tageblatt” from Rome, Following the directions from Albania still sounds serious. The Serbian troops have carried out large massacres in many places. The population flees to the capital Ti rana and to the coast. It is also announced that an uprising against the Serbs has broken out in Montenegro. Yugoslav troops now have the capital Tirana. One intends to take into account the Allieds protest.”
