In 1930, King Zog made an interview with “Breviks Dagblad” where he stated that according to Theocritus, Alexander the Great spoke a “barbarian” language, and was therefore an Albanian, according to Zog.

“At King Zog

-How is Europe’s newest dynasty Albania?

-King Zogu is a skilled man, but he has great traditions to uphold. Did you know that Alexander the Great himself was Albanian? Yes, Theocritus says that Alexander was a barbarian and spoke a language in which the word bocus meant bread. It is the Albanian language still buccia. – here it is called bread (Bukë). Zogu is a kind of Albanian Napoleon, young and energetic – and he also has a kind of Lætitia for a mother, she is an old energetic Albanian woman who only speaks Albanian, but his 6 sisters speak French.”
