Russia and England kept the Balkans in a state of war for their own interests in 1915

Petrit Latifi

After the Serbian assassination of the Archduke of Austro-Hungary, World War I started. However, in 1915, the paper Abendausgaben published an article stating that it was Russia and English money that kept the Great War going on as to enable the Russians to reach Constantinople through Serbia, and to keep the Turks out of the Suez Canal.

“Only one thing is certain for all Austrians and Germans. There must be peace and quiet in the Balkans, and the threat of peace that has been licking its lips down there in recent years must not continue to lick its lips. There must be peace for all neighbors; that is the great goal: peace for Austria and Hungary, peace for Bulgaria, peace for the other peoples of the Balkan peninsula, and also peace for the Serbian people themselves. It cannot continue like this, with Russian intrigues and English money keeping the entire Balkans in a state of war forever, in order to pave the way for the Russians to Constantinople and, in the interests of the English, to keep the Turks away from the Suez Canal. It is from this point of view that Serbia’s fate will be decided”
