When 10,000 Albanians resisted the Serb imperialists in 1914

In 1914, the “Innsbrucker Nachrichten” published an article explaining that the Albanian uprising occurred due to the continous Serbian and Greek atrocities. At the invaded Albanian lands, around 10,000 Albanian freedom fighters resisted the Slav invaders around the regions of Prizren.

“An Albanian uprising in Serbia?

Serbian reports on Serbian-Albanian revolts.

“[…] The worst off are probably the Albanians. Their territory has been torn apart; one part has been left to the Greeks, other parts have been added to Serbia and Montenegro. One could almost say: a completely unruly Serbian state has been formed, which is only safe from being attacked and devoured by its neighbors because these neighboring countries in the West and South do not dare to put the patience of Serbia and Rome to a serious test. But in order not to be idle, work is being done in Greece, Serbia, and Montenegro diligently and with the most sophisticated means of the famous “culture” of these sympathetic nations to the denationalization of the Albanians.

Since the direct path is the best, this usually happens by simply robbing the inconvenient Albanians of their dowry, shooting them, or otherwise as if transported to the better afterlife in a swift manner, the women were treated with the tsarist sentiment customary in the Balkans, and the order of those who died involuntarily and were driven out was distributed as a merciless order to the Serbian and Greek apostles of civilization.

It is therefore not surprising that those who are, in the truest sense of the word, tormented to the core, are desperately resisting it Again and again, attacks by Bulgarian gangs against the liberators are reported; again and again, the Albanians are forced to resort to arms. The last uprising of the Albanians, handed over to Serbia and Montenegro, is fresh in their memory, and now it is reported that new bloody uprisings are taking place on the Serbian-Albanian border.

For the time being, there are only Serbian reports about this, and these, of course, should be received not only with the greatest caution, but also with the keenest confidence. The Serbs are presenting the protests as if the Principality of Albania is to be surrendered, but in reality, as we have already indicated, it will be a call, motivated by doubt, against the brutalities of the Serbians.”

“Belgrade, March 31. According to official information, strong Albanian gangs, estimated at 10,000 strong, have gathered along the Serbian-Albanian border in recent days. Individual gangs have invaded Serbian territory in the direction of Prizren, plundering the towns of Banja and Rakovac. The gangs plundered the towns of Banja and Rakovac. The Serbian border guards repeatedly clashed with the Albanians, and the district head of Prizren, Kakic, along with several border guards, was wounded and captured by the Albanians.

The so-called Kacaci, an Albanian tribe in Serbian territory, many of whose members had fled to Abania during the Lessian period, also participated in the fighting with the Serbian border guards. Great excitement prevailed in Bagrad due to the news coming in from the border.”
