In 1914, Isa Boletini, the Albanian commander in chief, and Hasan Bey Prishtina, as well as the Malesori highlanders of Shkodër, gathered the Albanian freedom fighters and drove the invading Serbs and Montenegrins out of Albanian territory, who were forced to retreat.

“The Albanians against Serbia. A Serbian battalion captured by Albanians.

According to a report from Sofia in the Constantinople newspaper “Le Jeune Turc,” the Albanian advance against Serbia continues along the entire line. In the Dibra area, the Albanians have captured a battalion of the regular Serbian army and seized a cannon and a large amount of war material. In the Shkodër area, the Malissors have occupied several important bunkers on the border. 3,000 Albanians under the command of Isa Boletini and Hassan Bey Prishtina, are advancing rapidly on the Kossvo side. The Serbian garrisons are unable to resist the Albanians and are retreating everywhere.”
