The Concordat between Albania and the Holy See of 1928

Petrit Latifi

In 1928, the Albanian government met with the Holy See to examine the possibility of a concodat between the two states.

“A high-ranking Albanian official is currently in Rome. He was a member of the commission sent by the Albanian government in 1928 to examine the possibility of a concordat between the Holy See and Albania. Rumors about the initiation of new concordat negotiations have surfaced in connection with this official’s presence.

What is certain is that the Albanian officials have held a series of meetings with the prelates of the Papal Secretariat of State. A preliminary study of this matter was already begun in November 1927 by the Apostolic Delegate, Monsignor G. B. Della Pietra. Although he stated that his investigation was not of an official nature, he maintained a very good relationship with the Albanian government, but had not yet received any mandate from it for any concordat negotiations.”
