Dr. Dillon: Greek-Serb Expulsions, Looting, and Massacres of Albanians in 1914

Petrit Latifi

The Serb, Montenegrin and Greek chauvinist armies invaded Albanian territoies and chopped them up among themselves in 1912-1913. These atrocities continued in 1914 as well. In an an article by Dr. Dillon, correspondent of the Daily Telegraph, in 1914, we can read:

“The news reaching the West via unofficial Albanian channels or via Greece and Serbia is bleak. Dr. Dillon, the special correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” in Durazzo, telegraphed to his paper: Based on the information I have received, there is no doubt that Serbia and Greece are working according to a common program and aim at the extermination of the Albanians and the ruin of the newly created Albanian state.

In the Albanian districts of Serbia, Albanians are being massacred en masse, the wealthy are being dispossessed and sent to Turkey. But they are not allowed to return to Albania. In addition, Serbia is actively seeking an opportunity to invade Albania. Greece is pursuing the same policy.”
