The Serbian invasion of Albania in 1915

Petrit Latifi

Having invaded Albania in 1912 and 1913, the Serbian forces, despite being ordered to evacuate from Albanian territories by Europe, continued to stay. In 1914, various atrocities and war crimes were committed by the Serbs against Albanians. In 1915, a Serbian invasion of Albania began, which was planned according to Serbian minister Jovanovic in an article in the “Darvoje Vremja” in Nish. According to the Serb chauvinist imperialist government of the time, they believed that only Serbia could restore order in Albania.

Cited from the “Innsbrucker Nachrichten: edizioni di mezzogiorno”:

“Copenhagen, June 25 From Petersburg it is reported: The Serbian Minister Jovanovitsch explained the following to the representative of the “Darvoje Vremja” in Niš regarding the Serbian action in Albania:

“It is not true that the Serbian action has weakened the Serbian army on the Austrian front, which is now ready for the offensive. An occupation of Albania requires far fewer forces than a continuous struggle with the Albanian bands that are making raids into Serbian territory.

Only Serbia (?) can restore order in Albania. The main goal of our military operation in Albania is to permanently paralyze the activities of Turkish agents in Albania, to end the Albanian anarchy, to liberate Essad Pasha, and to secure our territory on the Albanian border. The Serbian actions in Albania are not accidental operations, but are closely connected with the Serbian campaign in the present war.”
