Greek theft of Albanian herds of cattle in 1913

Petrit Latifi

In 1913, the “Der Tiroler / Der Landsmann” published an article about the Greek arsonists and pillagers stealing the herds of cattle of the Albanians. The article also mentions that the Serbian troopers denied the Albanian malesoris access to the cities and committed atrocities. The Greek and Serb authorities did nothing.

Cited:

“New cruelties in Albania.

The Albanian Corespondent reports to Janina: The excitement existing in southern Albania is apparently being fanned by the recent excesses of the Greek authorities. Every day, entire troops of arrested Albanians are being brought to Janina. In the villages, Greek gangs are robbing the Albanians of all their herds of cattle.

So far, the authorities have not taken any measures against the activities of these gangs. The entire hope of the desperate population is directed towards Austria and Italy. The Serbs, who are denying the Malesori highlanders access to the cities, are also acting with terrible severity against the population and are continually committing severe cruelties”.
