When Greek extremists murdered the Italian delegation and blamed it on an Albanian in 1923

In 1923, the “Innsbrucker Nachrichten” published an article about the murder of the Italian delegation in Epirus. According to the Greek paper “Eleftheros Logos”, the Albanian gang leader Daura Hodja was seen near the crime scene. However, this was a lame attempt to blame it on an Albanian. The real perpetrators turned out to be Greek extremists, according to a report from Janina.

Cited from the article:

“The investigation into the murder in Epirus.

Athens, September 5. The newspaper “Eleftheros Logos” learns from Janina that the initial investigation has revealed that the Albanian gang leader Daura Hodja was seen near the crime scene on the eve of the assassination. He was said to be in conversation with the Albanian police chief. This fact is strange because a price had been put on the gang leader’s head.

The perpetrators: Greek officers?

KB. Rome, September 6. (Stefani.) According to reports from Janina, the perpetrators, or rather instigators, of the murder of the Italian delegation are members of the Pan-Epirotic organization, which is made up almost entirely of officers and members of the Greek authorities. The spiritual leaders of this organization are said to be the Greek representative on the Border Fortification Commission, Colonel Boyaris, and another officer who has not yet been precisely identified. The Pan-Epirotic organization has its headquarters in Janina and branches in Salonika, Athens, and Corfu.”
