Why there were few wounded Albanians in the hospitals during the Balkan War of 1912

Its interesting to read this article from the paper “Tiroler Stimmen” from 1913 about the Red Cross hospitals in Albania during the Balkan War. In the hospitals of Cetinje in Montenegro and Belgrade of Serbia, there were many wounded soldiers arriving. However, there were few Albanian prisoners of war or wounded arriving. The reason was that most Albanians deployed had been massacred by the Serbs, Montenegrins and Greeks. Regardless if wounded or captured.

Cited:

“The following day (the 30th), the Austrian Red Cross hospital was opened. As a second report, dated October 31, shows, the local hospital of the Austrian Notary Cross is being increasingly chosen by the Albanian population. On the very first day, there were 50 patients who were treated as outpatients. Some of them were admitted to the hospital.

There were only four war wounded. The members of the expedition were told by Albanian officers that the small number of wounded was only too understandable, since most of the Albanians deployed during the war had been massacred by the enemy. Most of the patients suffered from digestive tract disorders caused by hunger and hardship. Almost all of Tirana’s notables visited the hospital and expressed their gratitude for the excellent facilities.”
