In 1913, there were reports coming on the Serbs and Montenegrin appalling atrocities against Albanians were hundreds of men were slaughtered, women raped and children strangled to death. Liberal and atheist papers were so horrified about these crimes that they condemned them publically.
Serbian and Montenegrin atrocities against defenseless Albanians
“Unheard of atrocities committed by Serbian-Montenegrin troops against the Catholic and Muslim inhabitants are being reported—atrocities in which hundreds upon hundreds of defenseless men are slaughtered, their wives and adult girls are raped and horribly mutilated, and their children are strangled”
Liberal anti-clerical newspapers condemned Serbias and Montenegros war crimes and atrocities
“Even liberal, even anti-clerical newspapers, including those abroad, are weaving laurel wreaths for the martyr of his faith, and they do not hold back their indignation and contempt for the atrocities committed by the Serbian-Montenegrin troops. The Catholics of Austria-Hungary are outraged by the bloodbaths inflicted on the Albanian Catholics. They are asking themselves whether or not Austria-Hungary is still the protector, the protector of the Catholics of Albania. They are demanding a vigorous stand against Montenegro and Serbia, whose troops have been guilty of such serious offenses”.
The civilized world looked with concern at the future of the Albanians

The entire civilized world looks with concern and fear at the sad future that awaits the Catholics of Albania under the rule of Montenegro and Serbia.
