In 1930, the “Volkszeitung/Deutsche Volkszeitung” published an article about a Serbian Orthodox priest named Nikola Jovanovic who had murdered the mayor Ilija Milenkovic during an argument.

” A Serbian Priest as murderer. Orthodox priest Nikola Jovanovic from the village of Sovot near Stip in southern Serbia was taken into custody on the charge of killing the mayor, Ilija Milenkovic, during an argument. The mayor was found dead on a country road two weeks ago with a shattered skull. During the investigation, it was determined that the priest had been involved with the mayor”.
