In 1774, the Pasha of Shkodra in 1774 had successfully defeated the contagious epidemic that had devastated Shkodra and its surroundings. The plague had spread to Berdice, Bahçallek, Nosagui(?) and Barbalushi and affected 52 people over a period of 14 days.

The latest letters give the unpleasant news from a reliable source that in the areas of Shkodra, in Turkish Albania, namely in the villages and areas near Berdice, Bahçallek, Nosagui(?) and Barbalushi, throughout the villages of Shkodra, since the last days of the distant winter month, a disease believed to be contagious spread and affected 52 people over a period of 14 days. If this information is not so reliable that the usual preventive measures should be used immediately in the same cases, the local health magistrate, following the example of a Venetian order in this case, has had this restriction of 14 days since the 14th all ships coming from the mouth of Catarro, Castel nuovo, Budua, Curzola and from Ragusa.

The Albanian pasha of Shkodra dealt with the plague effectively
Trieste, March 14
….”In the letters read from Kotor it is stated that thanks to the effective facilities of the Pasha of Shkodra, the contagious epidemic which has caused great devastation around this city has been successfully extinguished and that the previous health situation now prevails throughout Albania. Therefore, on our part, the quarantine which had been recently imposed on ships from local areas has been lifted again.”
