The Albanians of Mataruge (Matra) and the border dispute with Montenegro reported in 1901

Petrit Latifi

On June 25, 1901, the Revalsche Zeitung published an article, Number 141, writing about the Albanians of Matra (modern day Mataruge) and the border dispute with the Montenegrins. Cited:

“The Porte dispatched Nizams to Matra, on the Turkish-Montenegrin border, to settle the property disputes between Montenegrins and Albanians. The Montenegrin envoy, Bakitta, announced that he had been instructed by his government to demand that the Porte recall the Nizams and recognize Montenegro’s rights, otherwise a conflict was to be feared.”
