On June 26, 1861, the Revalsche Zeitung published a telegraphic report about the Montenegrin assault of Spizza (Spiç) where they killed the Catholic Albanian leader of Zupci. The Albanians, led by Marko, the Catholic leader of Mirdite, joined forces with Abdi Pasha, and besieged the fort of Nehami.

“Antivari (Albania), June 28. A telegraphic report was received that a clash between the troops of Abdi Pasha and the Montenegrins was imminent near Spizza, southwest of Scutari. The latter had killed the Catholic head of Zupci, robbed the herds, advanced on the Turkish villages, and occupied them. Abdi Pasha and the chieftain of the Miridites (Catholic Albanians), Marko, had landed in Spizza, besieged Fort Nehami, armed it with cannons, and were awaiting reinforcements and the arrival of a Turkish frigate. (N.Pr.3.)”
