German source from 1836: Montenegrins have Albanian descent

Petrit Latifi

Mar – Oyb · Volume 7” which states that Montenegrins have Albanian origin.

Cited:

“Montenegrins or Czernogorzen are the names given to the inhabitants of the mountainous region of Czernogora, the Black Mountains or Montenegro, which forms the north-western corner of Albania. They are 38,000 strong and have maintained their independence from the Porte to this day. They are of Albanian descent and profess the Greek Church, but are otherwise crude and hostile to any peaceful occupation. When there is no war, cattle breeding is their main occupation, and the nearby Cattaro is the market where they bring their products, including around 20,000 turtles, for sale annually.”
