“From us, Mustafa Pasha, Governor of Shkodra, and Your Excellency, to You, Mons. Giorgio Angeli, Bishop of Shkodra
Honored and beloved Monsignor,
My late father, Vezir Mehmet Pasha, always loved the Catholics of his Diocese, and I try to love them with the same devotion as my late father.
I want you to do me a favor through your intercession with the Sacred Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith (Propaganda Fide).
It concerns a man in my service, Count de Vladagni, Dragoman of this government, who has a brother named Dom Simoni Vladagni in Rome. The request is that he return immediately to Shkodra, and that he be given that honorable title, which is the Abbey of Mirdita, and that you call him the Great Abbot.
This favor I ask of your Excellency, and I beg you to present the request with all the care and influence you have in the Sacred Congregation, so that through your intercession, this prayer of mine may be heard.
If this favor is granted to me, I can tell you without a doubt that you will always have me at your service, and that my respect for Catholicism will be unconditional. Otherwise, if you do not grant me this favor, I will take it as a lack of kindness, and I will withdraw from the friendship I have maintained until now.
In short, this is what I ask of you, with all desire and conviction that you will help me.
With my deepest respect,
Mustafa Pasha, Governor of Shkodra
Shkodra, March 31, 1778″.
