Fahri Xharra: Nikola Vasojevic (1804-1844) tried to create a Catholic principality of the Vasojevic after Serbia was created in 1830.

In this article, professor of history Fahri Xharra debates the idea of a Serbian antiquity, stating that Serbia is a Russian invention, in his 700 pages long book “Serbia: A Russian artificial state”. Xharra also states that in 1830, when Serbia was created, Nikola Vasojevic tried to create a Catholic principality based on the Albanian Vasojevic tribe. He continues stating that the Patriarch Bartholomew told the Serbs that they were living on 800-year-old lies, and that in the records of the Orthodox Church of Istanbul there was no record of the Serbs, until 1920 when Serbia bought Autocephaly by secretly paying 1.5 million Swiss francs.

“I am constantly faced with this question about how Serbia was created. Fortunately, I have also published the voluminous 700-page book “Serbia, an artificial Russian creature” which has been very successful and well received by readers. But is just one book enough? No, not even how.

My concern lies in the fact that among us it is still said that the Serbs came in the 6th-7th centuries, and that they were the protagonists of the Middle Ages, and that the history of that time is theirs, the churches in Kosovo are theirs.

Should we say to this Serbian “pride”: enough? Of course we do.

We don’t know how many thousands of books have been written by them, against us? by losing our history, by denying us as a nation, by underestimating us as ignorant, non-autochthonous and many other accusations.

How can historians remain indifferent, how can they remain silent in the face of insults against us?

Today I have also collected some facts with which I want to convince the reader that I had reasons for the published book.

The writer Sima Matavulj in his book: “Notes of a Writer” among other things writes:

“Even today at least 2/3 of Serbs consider themselves Serbs only because they belong to the Orthodox Church. In the 19th century, 99.9% of people believed that Serbism was a religious term, a designation for a person who practices religion in the way described by St. Sava. But here a nation with the name Serbian was created.

In the first half of the 19th century, let’s say, a Kuci or Rovcan would have propagated the opposite in his time, I would have been killed immediately (remember Nikola Vasojevic), and thus a new Serbian nation was invented during the 19th and 20th centuries.

So, where did Serbian antiquity remain?

Let’s explain who the Kucis were: The Albanian Kuqi tribe that was Slavicized, the Rovcans were: Bjelopavlics, Piperaj, Bratonozic, those around the Moraca River and the Vasojevićs, all of which are Slavicized Albanians.

Yes. who was Nikola Vasojević mentioned by Sima Matavuli: Nikola Vasojević? (1804-1844), tried to create a Catholic principality of the Vasojevićs, after Serbia was created in 1830.

With his goal, he caused a diplomatic storm in the Balkans and among the great European powers. According to him, his country would be the center of Catholic propaganda against Russia, In Rome, Vasojević was considered a Turkish agent, in Athens a Russian and then an English agent, the Vatican considered him a fraud and the whole project was suspicious, only the Polish government in exile took it more seriously. Orthodox circles saw a big problem because of the unification.

It is not known exactly how he died. According to one scenario, he was killed in a robbery, according to another, he was killed by mistake because they confused him with a Muslim, according to the third, according to tradition, he was targeted and killed by Njegoš by trickery.

It is said that an abbot slandered him to Njegoš, then Njegoš summoned Vasojević to Cetinje and on the way there he was killed in the village of Donje Zagarač by two of Njegoš’s men on 30 May 1844. Prince Danilo, in 1857, ordered Vasojević’s grave to be razed.[3][4][1].

Patriarch Bartholomew told the Serbs that they were living on 800-year-old lies, and that in the records of the Orthodox Church of Istanbul there was no record of the Serbs, until 1920 when Serbia bought Autocephaly by secretly paying 1.5 million Swiss francs.”
