by Shefqet Mehmeti. Translation Petrit Latifi.
A staunch patriot of the national cause. Met Podjeva, known by the nickname Babloku, was born in 1887 in the Podujeva district, in the heart of the Llapi region. He grew up and lived in a difficult time for the Albanian people, when Llapi and all of Kosovo were facing the invasions and major political changes of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Known as a wise man, with influence and authority in the province, Met Podjeva was closely linked to the national cause and the preservation of the Albanian identity. Through his advice, steadfastness and dedication, he contributed to the strengthening of national consciousness among the family and community.
Met was also the pillar of the home and the tribe, ensuring that traditions, customs and values were passed on to the new generations. His family became known in Podujeva and beyond for their honesty, hospitality and respect for work.
From this family would also come the famous goalkeeper Esat Mehmeti, his grandson, who would inherit from his grandfather not only strength and determination, but also love for sports and his homeland.
Met Podjeva passed away in 1976, leaving behind a respected name and a legacy that continues to live on to this day, as an example of Llapian endurance, wisdom and patriotism.
