The book “Српски етнографски зборник, Volumes 60–61” from 1950 presents insights into the Albanian population in Glasinac from the 1770s to the 1830s. It describes the “Arnauts,” who were Muslims and spoke Serbian, lingering in the region until the Austro-Hungarian occupation. Notable families include the Bajraktari, Shehovici, Orućevići, and Skrobani, whose ancestors migrated from Kolašin and Podgorica over 85 years prior. Despite their Albanian roots, they did not speak the Albanian language.
Cited:
“All these “Arnauts” were Muslims but spoke the Serbian language. They were in Glasinac during the time of the grandfather and great-grandfather of Hasanbeg (who was 70 years old in 1934), and some remained until the Austro-Hungarian occupation of Bosnia. “
We can also read of the Albanians of Bajraktari and Shehovici, as well as the Orućevići and Skrobani
“Bajraktarevići and their branch Šehovići. Their ancestors came from Kolašin and in ancient times from Podgorica and were “Arnauts”, but they did not speak Arbanash. They came more than 85 years ago. Their name was Orućevići, and the Bajraktarevići are nicknamed Skrobani here.”
