The Montenegrin assault on the Albanians of Tetine, Mrkovina, and Matagush in 1880

On 22.07.1880, the paper “FLAG”, in its number 111, published a telegraph by P. L. stating that the Montenegrin invasion forces had assaulted the Albanian troops near Tetine, as well as in Mrkovina and Matagush.

Cited:

“Regarding the new fighting between the Montenegrins and the Albanians, the telegraph from Scutari (Shkodër) of July 18 says:
Yesterday, the Montenegrins attacked the Albanian outposts near Tetine, killed three and wounded nine men from the Gruda tribe.

The Albanians received reinforcements and then pushed back the Montenegrins, who lost six men. Earlier there had also been skirmishes near Mrkovina, when Hadži Omer Bey attacked a Montenegrin advance guard commanded by Vojvoda Đurović, killing eight soldiers. With this attack, the Albanians intended to prevent the Montenegrins from fortifying positions near Mrkovina and Zalevo.

The same source reports further on July 19, again from Scutari: Between Montenegrins and Albanians there was another battle on July 16. The Montenegrins attacked, trying to push the Albanians from Mataguš, but the Albanians held firm, were driven back, and pursued up to the Golgudo line, until reinforcements came to their aid. Many Arnauts (Albanians) were stabbed in that fight. From Prizren, a significant force—said to be over a thousand men—was sent as aid toward Tuzi.

“Vienna (special dispatch)” also learns from London that the Turkish force which the Porte had assembled in Mitrovica and its surroundings set out on July 10 via the Pejë road. They arrived there. They are calling upon the Montenegrins to seize the trade routes from Duljine with three detachments, to prevent the Arnauts and Turks from crossing. In Scutari, the Montenegrins are being restrained so as to take further measures.”
