In this from Henry O. Dwight, sent to the edtor of the Tribune newspaper, we can read of Albania being mentioned as “Arnaoutluk”.

“The Turkish Atlas used in the higher schools of Constantinople describes on the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea an irregular part of the country, which is named Arnaoutluk.

Arnaoutluk is a place name derived by the laws of regular grammar from the word Arnaout – an Albanian. The name of this country attracts attention, because it is the only one in the entire atlas that is formed by the laws of grammar. It satisfies “the country of the Albanians”, or even
“the country where they keep the Albanians”. “
