In this report titled “Vol SR III Albania Macedonia etc 1648 f 45 v”. cited in the “Orientalia Christiana Volyume 36” of 1934, we can find interesting information on the Catholic community of Šušanj, (sometimes called Shushan, Shushanj, Sussanj or Sussani) and Tugjemil (Tuxhemilë or Tugiemille) and other regions in the 17th century.
Freely translated with names of regions corrected:
“In the Archiuescouate of Antivari continent beyond the Borgo della Città the villas of Zubçe, Sussani, Spizza Sozina, Lugiemila (Tugjemil) thousand and the municipalities of Sestanni (Shestan) which include more than ten villas there are only five Priests:
Pietro Samueli, Vicar Antonio Tomasi, Pietro Giorga Curate of Sussani, Giorgio Vuscouich Apostolic Missionary and Curate of Spizza and Sozina.
This diocese will have five thousand Catholics and has an extreme need for workers because those two priests who live in the city cannot supply the needs of Zubçe and Tugiemille where they exercise the care of souls. Giorgio Vuscouich alone cannot remember so many villas among themselves separated by half a day’s journey. P Donato da Spizza cannot often be in Sozina, X miles away from Spizza. From which it follows that every now and then those believers die without the Sacraments.
And this diocese is all the more in need of Ministers since it is surrounded on all sides by schismists (schismatics, meaning Orthodox) who are gradually introducing themselves as can be seen in Spizza where recently the majority have become schismatics.
Arciuescouo does not reside because he does not have a room and his residence would be of great fruit because by introducing a Mission of PP Reformati either in Tugiemille, a place in a manner and retreat or in Sestanni fra Monti it would be of notable benefit both for the conseruation of Catholics and for the conversion of schismatics”.
