This image presents a historical text related to the origin of Amfilohije Radović (Risto Radović), a well-known ecclesiastical figure from Montenegro and his roots in the Albanian Catholic Hoti tribe. The title reads: AMFILOHIJE JE PORIJEKLOM KATOLIČKI ALBANAC (“Amfilohije is of Albanian Catholic origin”).
The text states that the Radović family’s origin is from Malësia e Madhe, namely from the Hoti tribe, one of the most well-known Albanian Catholic tribes. The author mentions that this was noted in the 19th century by early scholars such as Andrija Jovićević and Pavle Rovinski, who documented much about the ethnography and history of Malësia and the Albanian regions.
The bottom part is an excerpt from Andrija Jovićević’s book:
“Istorija Morače do 1820.” (“History of Moraca until 1820”), which describes an early legend about a Hoti leader named Bogth (Bogith), who was voivode of Hoti, and his conflict with the neighboring Gruda tribe over the Hoti and Hum mountains.
This historical fragment tells of: a conflict between Hoti and Gruda over ownership of the mountains, clashes that led to bloodshed and displacement, and that after the defeats, Bogth’s family (i.e. the line that later connects to Moraca and the Radovićs) moved through Kuči and Bratonožići towards Proščenj, where they later settled in Petrova Ravan.
Abridged translation of the long part into Slavic:
“Around the middle of the 13th century in Hoti, in present-day Arbanija, there lived a leader named Bogth, voivode of Hoti. He had a quarrel with Gruda, the neighboring tribe, over the mountain of Hoti i Huma, because each claimed it as theirs. From this conflict, bloodshed broke out, Gruda killed two of Bogth’s sons. Although Hoti managed to defeat Gruda in battle, Bogth could no longer stay there, and with his five remaining sons he moved through Kuçi and Bratonožić to Proščenje, where he later settled in Petrova Ravan.”
Essentially, this historical document suggests that the Radović family (and Amfilohije Radović) traces its lineage to an old Albanian Catholic line from Hoti, which migrated to the areas of Morača (Montenegro) after tribal conflicts in the Middle Ages.
