The Battle between the Albanians of Spiç (Spizzanottes) and the Pastrovic (Pastrovicchians) tribe in 1871

In 1871, the Grazer Zeitung reported of a battle between the Albanians of Spiç (titled Spizzanottes) and the Pastrovic tribe near the Dalmatian border.

Cited:

“From Cattaro, it is reported that a bloody battle took place everywhere on the Dalmatian border between Pastrovicchians and Spizzanottes for the brave warriors and their forces. The Spizzanottes had given cause for this by Turkish subjects who wanted to claim certain pastures and woodlands for themselves, despite the fact that the border commissioners had repeatedly acknowledged that the disputed lands lay on Austrian territory and belonged to the Pastrovicchians.

The Spizzanottes had started the fight, which ended for them with the loss of one dead and two wounded on the side of the Pastrovicchianer, a man who sincerely clung to his fatherland, was wounded. The Austrian authorities have reached an agreement with the Turkish authorities to prevent a recurrence of such events”
