When the Albanians of Spiç and Tivari opposed the Montenegrin invasion in 1878

In 1878, the paper “Wochenblatt Forchheimer”, in its volume 45, published an article about the “Spizzanottes” (Albanians of Spiç) and the locals of Tivari (Antivari) who resisted the Montenegrin annexation and invasion.

Cited:

“Vienna, April 11. The Political Correspondence reports from Cattaro on the 11th: Throughout the area around Antivari, lively and sustained resistance to union with Montenegro is becoming apparent. The inhabitants of the entire district from Dulcigno to the Bojana River refuse to accept weapons from Montenegro and loudly and decisively declare themselves, without distinction of religious affiliation, in favor of union with Austria.

There is great unrest about this in Montenegro. An uprising of the Spizzanottes is expected hourly. Out of mistrust, the Montenegrins are already dismissing the Spizzanotte garrison from the fort of Mehaj Golobroo. A larger Montenegrin detachment is fortifying Bunta di Volovizza on both the land and sea sides.”
