In 1858, the newspaper “Bränner Zeitung der K.K. Privilegirten Mahrischen Lehnbank” published an article by Joseph Cölestin Lauer, writing about an incident in the Albanian inhabited village of Tuxhemilë. A Montenegrin shepherd decided to murder an innocent Albanian local, which led to vengeance from the Albanians of Tuxhemilë who killed 3 Montenegrins in return.

Cited:
“From the Montenegrin border, on March 14th, the Agr. Ztg. reports that a Montenegrin shepherd from the village of Limnjani saw a well-dressed and friendly Turk walking by. He hid him behind a boulder and decided to kill him. The Turk was one of the richest and most influential inhabitants of Tudjemili, who fearlessly walked peacefully through the lonely countryside.
When he approached the Montenegrin, the latter shot him with a long rifle, robbed him of his clothes, and cut off his head, which was taken to Cettinje. When this incident became known in Tudjemili, 25 Turks went there one morning and avenged their fellow believer by killing the Montenegrins, three of whom had their heads cut off, and by taking away as much cattle as they could. The Montenegrins had resisted, but it is expected that a strong Montenegrin expedition will soon march on Tudjemili and bloodily carry out this act of revenge.”
