In the book “O Srpskom imenu po zai adnijem krajevima našega naroda” by Vasilije Đerić from 1914, on page 3, we can read this interesting passage which states that Montegro was inhabited by “Serbs and Albanians” and not Montenegrins, as Montenegrin identity had not yet in fact been established.

“Око 1650. год. каже турски историк и географ Хаџи-Калфа или Батиб-Челебија: „Караџа-даг, 2 дана пута од Скадра, а 23 од Цариграда. У наоколо су: Подгорица, Скадар и Котор. Ста-новништво је мешовито, од Срба и Арбанаса”
Translated:
“Around 1650, the Turkish historian and geographer Haji Kalfa or Batib Celebi said: “Karadza-dag, 2 days’ journey from Shkodra, and 23 from Constantinople. In the vicinity are: Podgorica, Shkodra and Kotor. The population is mixed, of Serbs and Albanians.”
