In the Serbian newspaper “Дело” dated 01. 04. 1906 “стр. 313”, we can read an article that states that hospitality was common among the Arbanasi (Albanians) but not as much among the Serbs.
Cited:
“Hospitality is also very developed among the Arbanasi, but it seems that it is not as common as among the Serbs, but some brotherhoods or houses are more distinguished by it than others. A guest is greeted with a welcome and a hug, but there is no kissing among the Arbanasi, but those who are hugging move their left cheeks closer to each other, so that their cheeks do not touch but slightly move apart. The Serbs say in a joke that the Arbanasi “sniff”.
Before leaving, the guest should give the hostess or the entire household a small monetary gift. The Arbanasi adhere to this custom very precisely, and it is known that the guest, especially if he has come to the house for the first time, must give each woman in the house at least one grosze. A well-endowed woman, both among the Serbs and among the Arbanasis, kisses a guest on the hand, and sometimes on the chest. When going with a guest or a stranger in general, she is allowed to kiss him out of respect, and very rarely deviates from this rule (especially among the Arbanasis).”
