The Albanian Millosh Xhambasha (Milos Jambasia) of the Albanian village of Spiç (Spizza) of the 18th century

In 1771, a Venetian official compiled a report writing about an Albanian agent named Millosh Xhambasha (Milos Jambasia) from the Albanian village of Spiç, who was arrested. The report states that he was a fugitive, “famoso fuoruscito” and a “ribelle del Gran Signore” (rebel against the Ottoman Sultan). The report also states he was guilty of plundering a ship and arrived in Venetian territory on a Ragusan (Dubrovnik) boat.

Cited:

“The convent is still under guard, as Your Excellency will learn from the ducal annexes that I submit to you by your document. The arrest recently carried out by the Illustrious Extraord of Cattaro on the person of Milos Jambasia, a notorious fugitive from the Ottoman villa of Spizza, a rebel of the Grand Lord and guilty of the recent plundering of a ship, Spizzanotta, while he had boldly presented himself there with a Ragusean galley in order to gain free passage through the Interneco, has produced a very significant discovery of the secret correspondence that the Lords of that Government are holding with Steffano Piccolo. What was in the purpose deliberated by the Public Maturity will be revealed from the documents that are being delivered and will note that the prescribed delivery of Jambasia to the Captain of Antivari, who made a positive investigation of it, still remains to be carried out.”
