The French betrayal of the Albanians of Antivari in the 13th century

In the book “Construction de l’identité dans la rencontre des cultures chez des auteurs d’expression allemande: Être ailleurs” by Geoffroy Rémi, Irène Bessière, of the “Groupement de recherches et d’études sur les cultures antiques “, published 2007, we can read:

“On the 112th day (p. 54), our travelers climbed a mountain near Antivari. Long ago, more than 12,000 Albanians had gathered there, awaiting reinforcements promised by the King of France to attack the Turks. Unfortunately, since the King of France had seized the Kingdom of Naples and withdrawn from it, and this had reached the ears of the Turk, he massacred all the Albanians.”

For our Germans, these populations dreamed of a great Christian offensive. On the 113th day (p. 54), “when the Albanians who lived in these high mountains saw us pass by, they lit bonfires because they were happy to see our ships going to visit the Holy Land. The Albanians are good Christians and are neither subject to the Venetians nor to the Turks.”
