In 1721, a German paper reported of a conflict in Venice between Albanians of Ulqin and Sclavonians (Slavs).
Translated:
“And since, finally, on May 1st of this year, 1721, a great clash erupted in Venice, in which the Sclavons, along with some Dulcignots (who, like all other Turks, trade freely there), came into conflict and exchanged blows, and in such tumult, although other Dulcignots came to their aid, were also cut to pieces by the Sclavons, the Imperial Court itself, for this reason, prosecuted the matter at the Porte and lodged a complaint, and, to prevent all the misfortune that may befall it in the future, was to be prosecuted.
In Trieste, some of the aforementioned Dulcignots then began trading with the inhabitants there, and on both sides, when the latter were not shot at, they died, whereupon the Imperial Court… The governor had the ship with all the Dulcinottes arrested and reported the affair, which benefits the Venetians, to Vienna.”
