The Greek attack and bombardment of Albania and Vlorë in 1912

On 05.12.1912 two Greek warships would enter the quay of the Port of Vlora and bombard some of the headquarters of the first Albanian Government which were located in the Capital of that time, Vlora. Around 5 o’clock in the afternoon, the head of the Government will launch a protest message to all the European Chancelleries through the newspaper “il Giornale d’Italia” where he will write:

“Two Greek warships, which had already repeatedly shelled the international cable office, appeared this morning in front of the Vallona dock and fired on the Albanian quay and public buildings, causing damage everywhere.

We denounce this fact to the European public, whose sympathy is not lacking for a nation seeking emancipation and the security of its autonomy.

Albanians, regardless of religion, support their national government and appeal to the sense of justice of civilized peoples to act in their favor and restore their sacrosanct legitimate rights.”
